The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The rehabilitation of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, dubbed as the "world's worst airport" by travelers, is nearly complete, a Malacañang official reported.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte conducted an inspection of the rehabilitation works earlier this week and released photos of the terminal's "new look."

Improvements in the terminal include new check-in counters, air-conditioning system, better lighting, new display boards, conveyor belts and lavatories.

The ongoing work on the terminal is the first major renovation effort in 30 years.

Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta said repairs in passenger movement areas such as the arrival and departure areas are expected to be finished by month's end.

Completion of the rehabilitation program, meanwhile, is expected by May.
