Insular Life starts 2015 with new VUL fund

MANILA, Philippines - To continue providing Filipinos an opportunity to earn better investment returns, a recent addition to its roster of variable unit-linked (VUL) products’ investment funds was launched early this year.

Named the Select Equities Fund, this asset is a rules-based equity fund that aims to provide long-term portfolio growth from capital appreciation by primarily investing in 10 of the most liquid and well-capitalized dividend paying stocks listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange.

To date, over 2,000 investors have already made placements in this fund. Select Equities Fund joins the list of Insular Life’s VUL funds namely: Equity Fund, Growth Fund, Balanced Fund and Fixed Income Fund.

The 2014 performance of the equity-laced funds reached commendable records. The Equity Fund recorded a 25.16-percent return in 2014, slightly higher than its benchmark, the PSEi, which ended at 22.76 percent.

The company’s Growth Fund which invests in companies best positioned to take advantage of the business confidence in the Philippine economy and international growth areas recorded a return of 25.44 percent.  Meantime, Insular Life’s balanced fund which provides investors a combined exposure to both the equity and fixed-income market, recorded returns of 14.21 percent.

Wealth Builder and Variable Returns Asset are single premium payment products. The return it gives depends on the growth of the chosen fund elected by the policyholder.

Part of the investment amount covers for the insurance protection embedded in the product so that if anything happens to the insured, the beneficiaries will get 125 percent of the premium or the fund value, whichever is higher.
