ERC okays amendment to Philippine Grid Code
MANILA, Philippines - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC has approved amendments to the Philippine Grid Code to include the National Transmission Co. (Transco) as one of the government representatives to the Grid Management Committee.
In a resolution, the ERC said it has granted Transco’s request to be part of the committee which ensures that all users of the grid are represented.
The GMC is a non-profit private organization created by the ERC to facilitate compliance with the grid code at the operations level. The committee sets the processes for the settlement of disputes, enforcement and revision of the grid code.
The grid code provides for the rules, requirements, procedures and standards that will ensure the safe, reliable, secured and efficient operation, maintenance and development of the high voltage backbone transmission system in the country, which requires the cooperation of all industry participants.
At present, there are three government representatives in the GMC, one each from the ERC, the Department of Energy and the National Electrification Administration (NEA), who are tasked to provide guidance on government policies, regulatory frameworks and directions.
With the decision, the ERC increased the number of representatives to five from the current membership of three.
