Hyundai sales up 9%
MANILA, Philippines - The local distributor of Korean vehicle brand Hyundai registered a nine percent increase in sales in the January to November period from a year ago due to the positive performance of the passenger car (PC) segment.
According to Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), it sold a total of 21,405 units as of end-November this year, up from the 19,617 units sold in the same period in 2013.
The higher year-on-year sales for the 11-month period was achieved due to strong demand for PCs.
HARI’s PC sales grew 23 percent to 14,962 units in the January to November period this year from the previous year’s sales of 12,174 units.
Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales meanwhile, slid 13 percent to 6,443 units as of end-November this year from the 7,443 units sold in the comparable period last year.
The company’s total sales for the month of November alone went up slightly to 1,730 units this year from 1,712 units a year ago.
The year-on-year uptick in November was driven by the LCV segment’s sales which rose by five percent to 567 units this year from 540 units in 2013.
PC sales for the month of November however, dipped slightly to 1,163 units this year from the previous year’s sales of 1,172 units.
As December is traditionally a good month for vehicle sales, HARI said it is confident its sales would further pick up.
