Tanduay cited for ‘green’ practices

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Tanduay Distillers was cited for exemplary green practices in the recent FPI Sustainable Development Recognition Awards, an annual event that recognizes various organizations who strikingly demonstrate commendable corporate citizenship.

“Gone are the days when distilleries were seen as ‘environmental villains’. We want to be a catalyst of change and challenge other players in the industry that distillery operations should be clean.

Tanduay has worked a long way in achieving this. As a corporate individual, of course I want big profits, but never at the expense of the environment. We want to be more known as a Green Distillery,” said Tanduay president and COO Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr.

FPI awarded Tanduay as the Most Outstanding Corporation in the practice of Management of Waste. Aside from being at the forefront of Tanduay’s eco-friendly initiatives, Bong also takes his team into his passion in advocating for green energy. In 2013, he sealed a partnership with Aseagas Corp. and formed the country’s first venture in a technology that will convert the distillery’s organic effluent into an alternative fuel named LBM or liquid biomethane.

“The efforts of our team in producing rum alcohol with the best green practices are unparalleled. I personally take pride in saying that our distilleries have gone way ahead in its mission to sustainably produce quality sugarcane alcohol, always, with the environment in mind. This is the same alcohol that goes into  every bottle of Tanduay. Our customers deserve nothing less than the best.”
