CGBP brings best practices seminars to Legaspi City

MANILA, Philippines - The Center for Global Best Practices (CGBP) is bringing its seminars to Legaspi City.

It will launch two of its best-selling seminars in collaboration with Forbes College and the Aquende Scholarship Foundation. These two seminars are: “Best Practices and Remedies to Avoid COA Disallowances,” scheduled on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 and “How To Collect Debt Without A Lawyer: Best Practices Guide in Using the Small Claims Court” scheduled on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.

The seminar on Best Practices and Remedies to Avoid COA Disallowances will address the issues on COA disallowances and solutions for those encountering such problems. This will feature the common findings of COA, Supreme Court Rulings, as well as remedies and defenses on cases that may be deemed as disbursements which are illegal, irregular, extravagant, unnecessary and unconscionable. This is intended for LGUs, government agencies and lawyers who need to defend their clients on COA and procurement-related issues.

For those who may not make it to the schedule, you may catch the last lecture on this in Baguio City on Jan. 30, 2015.  This one-day learning event will feature lawyer Leonor D. Boado, CPA. She is the recently retired director of the Fraud Audit and Investigation Office, Legal Services Sector of the Commission on Audit. She has held various positions in her 34 years in COA including being Chief Legal Officer of the Legal Adjudication Office, director of Local Government, and thereafter, National Government Audit Offices. Her accomplishments include being awarded Outstanding Woman of COA in 2000, magna cum laude, valedictorian and government scholar of the University of the East Law School, and authored three books on criminal law. 

The second seminar on How To Collect Debt Without A Lawyer Using The Small Claims Court is very useful for businesses.  What used to take years to litigate costly collection cases can now be resolved immediately in one day with the judge’s final, executory, and non-appealable decision. This is part of the reforms of the Supreme Court where a civilian, non-lawyer, can argue your case in court with no lawyer required if the principal amount (excluding interest and penalties) to be collected is P100,000 or less. Many banks are using this effectively.  However, many citizens and business owners are not at all aware of this. This special program will feature lawyer Christian G. Villasis. He is the Chairman on the Committee of Experts in Remedial Law of the University of the Philippines Law Center for 2012 and 2013.
