Skyjet Airlines brings back the frills in air travel

MANILA, Philippines - “In Skyjet, we don’t just sell seats. We sell experience.” said Skyjet Airlines president Dino Reyes-Chua. “We believe that vacation experience should start from the time that they board our aircraft.”

The airline which was launched in December 2012, brings back the frills in air travel. The airline caters to travellers who are looking for a better travel experience wether they are on business or leisure trip.

Skyjet Airlines is Philippines’ first airline on its category with its boutique-type amenities and services. The airline currently operates three 80-seater British Aerospace-manufactured, BAe-146-100. It is the same aircraft that the British royal family uses.

BAe 146-100 features large airbrakes with two petals below the tail rudder at the rear of the fuselage, which have the advantage of being usable during flight and allowing for steep descent rates if required. Capable of landing on short runways, Skyjet Airline’s fleets are ahead of other airline companies operating in the Philippines as most of the island destinations are only accessible with this type of aircraft. “Our planes are perfect, because here in the Philippines our airport runways’ are usually short and small. The aircraft specializes on this because of its short take-off/landing (S.T.O.L.) safety feature,” Reyes-Chua said.

The four-engine aircraft can fly faster than of the other airlines’ smaller airplanes, making it the fastest to its routes. “For a time, travelling to Batanes is really hard. There was even a joke before that when you visited the island, it will take you a month to get back to the mainlands. Now we are flying every other day there and we are the fastest and safest way to these Philippine island destinations,” he said.

“Our country is littered with beautiful island destinations, and we are very happy to take our travellers to those places.” he added.

The airline flies directly to Busuanga (Coron), Caticlan (Boracay), Kalibo (Aklan), Basco (Batanes) and their recently launched route to Baler from their hub in Manila Domestic Airport (NAIA Terminal 4). The airline also caters chartered flights for group tours and business VIP travellers to domestic and international destinations under the awarded license to operate as a domestic and international commercial carrier.

The airline is also eyeing to add more fleets and opening their own training facility in Manila to secure the growth of the company.
