DPWH extends deadline for pre-qualification in P123-B Laguna Lakeshore project bidding

Lawrence Agcaoili - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has extended the deadline for the submission of prequalification documents for the P123-billion Laguna Lakeshore expressway dike project by three months to give bidders more time to form competitive groups.

In a bid bulletin, DPWH Undersecretary Rafael Yabut said the agency has extended the submission of qualification documents for the Laguna Lakeshore project to Jan. 14 instead of Oct. 16.

Yabut said the short list of prequalified bidders would be announced on Feb. 3 instead of Nov. 5.

According to him, only prequalified bidders would be allowed to submit bid proposals on July 6.

Yabut pointed out that the agency’s special bids and awards committee (BAC) for PPP projects would also hold a pre-bid conference and one-on-one meetings with interested bidders.

Earlier, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the agency was keen on giving interested bidders 90 more days to form a viable consortium that could handle the huge capital outlay for the project.

“This is just to be able to get more qualified members in the consortium. We are willing to give them more time to put together the members of the consortium,” Singson said earlier.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board chaired by President Aquino approved the project last June 19. It aims to mitigate flooding in the Laguna Lake coastal towns, particularly in Southern Metro Manila and Laguna, improve the environmental condition of the Lake, and promote economic activities through the efficient transport of goods and people.

The project would likewise provide opportunities for developing a new business and residential district in the reclaimed areas.
