Agrilink offers free seminars on hogs, poultry

MANILA, Philippines - Several agribusiness organizations will hold seminars at Agrilink 2014, the country’s premier trade exhibition on agriculture, food and aquaculture, on Oct. 9 to 11 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The seminars will feature the latest information and updates in related topics such as; biosecurity and management practices for hogs; health, growth, feeds and disease management of pigs; natural hog raising; nutrition management for livestock; production and management techniques for poultry; innovations for vannamei culture; food safety; and farm mechanization.

Among the organizations that will be conducting seminars are; San Miguel Foods Inc. (SMFI), Vim-Vertex, Olimix, Bureau Veritas, Sasso, Sarimanok Poultry of UNAHCO, Santeh Feeds Corp., Bounty Fresh, Buhler Group, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO).

SMFI’s seminar – “ABC of Swine Disease Management,” – will tackle health programs, biosecurity and management practices for hogs. Dr. Eugene P. Mende DVM MSx, SMFI veterinary medicine technical services manager, will discuss the different variables for hog infection and how to turn them into assets for disease prevention.

Vim Vertex will discuss how hog farmers can increase profitability by maximizing the utilization, absorption and detoxification of nutrition inputs at the cellular level.

Olmix, which will participate under the French Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, will discuss how litter conditioners can help in the comfort, welfare, health and performance of broiler poultry.

Switzerland-based Buhler Group of Companies, which is engaged in equipment and related services for food processing and manufacturing, will discuss food safety and hygienic design in rice milling.

Buhler’s Rustom A. Mistry will also discuss what processors must do to ensure the safety and integrity of their end products.

Santeh Feeds’ seminar, “Sustainable and Innovative Vannamei Culture Techniques,” will talk about low stocking density monoculture for white shrimp Penaeusvannamei culture in the Philippines as well as tilapia / milkfish vannamei polyculture approach.

Other seminars such as UNAHCO’s “Feeding and Management Strategies to Improve Survival and Performance of Young Piglets,” “Duck Layer Health and Egg Production Management” and “How to Maximize Egg Production of Laying Hens.”

BFAR will showcase its latest mariculture projects and highlight the latest technologies in aquaculture.

Next Tech Resources will provide a technical presentation of tunnel ventilation and broiler, feed management, heating and laying systems for broiler chickens and turkey, while Seven-L Agrifood Systems, Inc. will discuss the operating rules for biosecurity and air treatment control in pig breeding.

KAMICO will discuss the history of South Korea’s farming system, how it transformed from manual to mechanized farming, the advantages of farm mechanization and how South Korea can transfer its technology to the Philippines.

Aside from the free seminars, other international and local organizations, the Department of Agriculture and its regional offices, will also have live plant and animal display and other interactive activities.
