MANILA, Philippines - Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) administrator Andres F. Ibarra (right), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) administrator Gerardo A.I Esquivel (left) and Marilao Water District interim general manager Ricardo B. Abano (center) sign the memorandum of understanding for the Bulacan bulk project, the biggest water supply project in the province of Bulacan amounting to P24.4 billion. The project aims to provide potable water to more towns in Bulacan and meet their future drinking water requirements. It calls for the initial provision of 45.5 million liters of water per day to the municipalities of Obando, Meycauayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas and San Jose del Monte City. Subsequently, a 47.3 million liters of water per day supply for Calumpit, Bulacan, Guiguinto, Sta. Maria, Malolos, Paombong, Plaridel, Pulilan and Hagonoy will also be provided. The final stage calls for the delivery of still an unspecified volume of  water per day for Angat, Baliwag, Bustos, Norzagaray, San Miguel, Don Remedios Trinidad, San Ildefonso, San Rafael and Pandi. The project will reduce groundwater extraction and use of deepwells in the province, currently being discouraged due to its adverse environmental impact. It is the government’s recent biggest water Public-Private Partnership deal and is expected to bring in more income and employment to local residents.
