MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Authority and Foresight Development and Surveying Co., Soosung Engineering Co. Ltd. and Korea Rail Network Authority consortium which got the contract for consulting services on civil works has started the preparatory works for the construction of the Line 2 East Extension Project.
Based on the South Korean consortium report, soil investigation and traffic survey is nearing completion while mapping of utilities and hydrological and geotechnical surveys are ongoing.
The result of the abovementioned preparatory works are needed and necessary in order to come up with a detailed design of the foundation of pier, guideways and viaduct and traffic management plan.
The LRT 2 East (Masinag) Extension Project entails the extension of the existing 13.8-kilometer system from Santolan, Pasig City, to the intersection of the Marcos and Sumulong Highways in Rizal. Two (2) additional passenger stations namely the Emerald Station to be located between Sta. Lucia and Robinsons Metro East and the Masinag Station near the SM Masinag are to be constructed. It is expected to serve an additional 130,000 train commuters from the current ridership of 240,000.
