MANILA, Philippines - Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom will serve as satellite host of the 1st Telecom Application Developer Hackathon (TADHack) in the Philippines on June 6 and 7 at the Globe Valero Telepark, Makati City.
TADHack is a global meeting place for developers who want to learn, share, code, and create using tools and technologies available in telecom.
“After successfully hosting the 1st TechCamp in the country, we are proud to again be tapped to host another international event. We will be lending our expertise in telecommunications to make sure that developers have the latest tools to add to their application,†said Michelle Santos, developer community manager of Globe Labs.
In particular, Globe Labs will share its Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) which allow the building of powerful applications for Voice, Short Messaging Service (SMS) and Charging such as SMS alerts and notification, group messaging, conference calls, automatic call-outs, voice surveys, text-to-voice call outs, InApp purchase, paid subscriptions, among others.
TADHack 2014 will be held simultaneously in six different cities: Manila, Philippines; Madrid, Spain; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Chicago, USA; Pune, India; and Colombo, Sri Lanka. It will be live-streamed to enable teams to compete remotely.
Prior to the hackathon, participants will undergo a two-day pre-event workshop on May 27 and 29 to learn how the Globe Labs APIs work and how they can be applied on their app.
The winner of the hackathon will receive $1,000 from TADHack while Globe Labs will also award a special prize of P30,000 and API credits worth P3,000 for the best telco app. The API credits entitle the winner to 6,000 outgoing SMS and 40,000 incoming SMS, or 600 minutes of calls. This is useful for voice or SMS based applications which require the sending and receiving of alerts and subscriptions, among other activities. The credits may be used within a six-month period to help them with the development and testing.
