DTI sees more inbound business missions this year

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) expects to receive more business missions from countries that have never organized missions here before amid fa- vorable economic conditions.

Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo told reporters the country has become an attractive location for business as many countries are sending business missions here for the first time.

“Many countries are sending business missions for the first time here. We expect more to come. Things are going very well for us from an economic growth and in- vestment and trade perspective,” he said.

Among the countries which sent busi- ness missions to the Philippines for the first time in the last two years were the Czech Republic, Israel, Russia and those from Latin America.

Trade Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo Jr. told reporters the DTI has received a total of 68 inbound business missions for the first quarter.

An inbound mission involves the visit of at least five companies to the country at the same time.

Given the country’s economic condi- tions and investment climate, Manalo said more business missions are expected to arrive.

He said that a business mission is set to arrive from Sweden tomorrow (May 6) to check out investment opportunities here.
