Napocor awards contract for supply of three 1,000-kwh generating sets

MANILA, Philippines - The National Power Corporation (Napocor), the state-owned power company, has awarded the contracts to supply three 1,000-kilowatt generating sets for its Marinawa Diesel Power Plant in Bato, Catanduanes.

In an advisory, Napocor president Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita said the company awarded the contracts to Frontier Power Technologies, which would be in charge of the supply, delivery and installation of three gensets to Napocor’s Catanduanes power plant.

The new generating sets would replace the plant’s two 1,224 kw units that have been in use for the last 17 years and are expected to make sure that the 43, 677 households of the province would have sufficient power supply especially during summer when the province’s hydroelectric plants reduce generation.

Sta. Rita said the replacement of the units is part of Napocor’s efforts to improve its Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) program, its program of providing power to remote communities.

 â€œIt is part of Napocor’s mission to not only electrify the remotest islands in the country but also to improve our facilities to better serve our customers,” Sta. Rita said.

The Marinawa Plant is one of the 298 plants of Napocor’s SPUG group. Its generated power is distributed by the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative (FICELCO).

The company has been implementing a program that aims to minimize power outages in remote areas and far-flung villages

The program includes weekly review for blackouts and load shedding of power plants.

It is also set to implement a new fuel operations manual that would standardize the process of fuel usage and inventory, additional power generation capacity, line faults monitoring and upgrading of transmission line projects, as well as the purchasing of flow meters and fuel oil storage tanks for sufficient on-site fuel supply.

The initiatives would improve electricity service to 750,000 missionary electrification end users.
