Globe expanding overseas presence
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom Inc., a joint venture between Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., is set to further expand its overseas presence to serve millions of Filipinos working and living abroad.
Gil Genio, executive vice president and chief operating officer for international and business markets of Globe, said the company currently serves over 11 million Filipinos living and working in over 70 countries around the world.
He said Globe provides the best options for Filipinos abroad to stay connected with their loved ones back in the Philippines.
“We aim to provide the best connectivity offers to over 11 million Filipinos overseas. We are pleased to be able to introduce the Globe brand of service to Pinoys, making it more affordable to keep in touch with family and friends back in the Philippines,†he stressed.
He pointed out that Globe has robust retail presence in six major overseas Filipino markets including the US, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Globe senior vice president for international business Rizza Maniego-Eala added that the company is proud to offer its services to the global Filipino community.
“Whether they are permanent migrants or working in a variety of sectors, they have already embraced these countries as their second home but continue to find ways to keep in touch with family in the Philippines,†she added.
Globe is looking at expanding its coverage abroad by tapping more overseas Filipino markets.
“It is our vision to provide innovative and value-for-money communications services that allow them to maintain strong ties with their loved ones back home, connecting them to a wonderful world – a commitment to them by Globe International Business,†she said.
Filipinos in the United Kingdom and Italy can now keep in touch with friends and family back home while paying local rates.
With the Globe UK SIM, Pinoys just need to remember one very affordable amount – 10 pence – for calls and texts to Globe and TM in the Philippines and to all networks in the UK. Meanwhile, Filipinos could call Globe and TM in the Philippines with the Globe Italy SIM for as low as five euro cents or P3 per minute, the lowest rate for any Italian mobile operator.
Globe International Business also offers DUO International in the US, UK, Korea and Canada a local landline number for just $25 a month which would assigned to their loved one’s Globe or TM mobile so there is no need to worry about international long distance charges when calling the Philippines.
Likewise, Globe recently launched the Globe Seafarer SIM to offer affordable call and text rates to 400,000 members of the Filipino maritime community who visit seaports around the world.
Without the need for expensive satellite equipment connections, seafarers could call home for as low as $0.20 per minute while sending an SMS costs only $0.10 per text message.
Globe’s subscriber base jumped 16 percent to 38.5 million last year from 33.1 million in 2012 as the number of prepaid subscribers increased 16 percent to 36.35 million while the number of postpaid subscribers jumped 17.3 percent to 2.03 million.
