Donnabelle L. Gatdula - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The 5th World Ecotourism Conference slated for next month in Bohol and Cebu City will be moved to the first quarter of 2014 to give way to post-disaster-activities in the province.

The event was supposed to be hosted by the Department of Tourism and DiscoveryMice on Nov. 13-15.

Tourism undersecretary Daniel Corpuz, in a notice issued Oct. 18, said the rescheduling was deemed necessary to give chance for the residents of earthquake-stricken Bohol and Cebu to recover from the disaster.

“All those who have registered online are advised to reconfirm their interest to attend once the online registration is reactivated with the new schedule,” Corpuz said.

Attendees were advised to keep tab on http://wec2013philippines.com/ for the new schedule.

“We look forward to everyone’s kind cooperation and support as we work for the swift recovery of Cebu and Bohol tourism infrastructure,” said Corpuz.

WEC, one of the world’s biggest eco tourism events is expected to be attended by more than 300 foreign and local delegates from around the globe.

The conference aims to pool political, financial and intellectual resources to empower both public and private sector stakeholders in enforcing sustainable and practical tourism development and practices .

The conference  is also an opportunity for advancement of ecotourism around the world.

The event, themed “Marine and Coastal Ecotourism: Oceans of Uncertainties. Waves of Opportunities” is expected to be participated in by about 200 foreign and 100 local participants.
