Malaysian investors show strong interest in Phl

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines continues to be among the top investment destinations for Malaysian firms. Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Mohd Zamri Bin Mohd Kassim said that Malaysian investors have long recognized the investment opportunities in the Philippines which is now more than ever attracting Malaysian investors due to the country’s booming economy.

The Philippines continued to grow this year, posting significant figures of 7.7 and 7.5 percent gross domestic product (GDP) expansions in the first and second quarter respectively.

Kassim said the presence and interest of Malaysian investors in the Philippines is at a peak as these businessmen are trying to make the most of the good investment climate here.

He said some of the biggest and most successful Malaysian firms have made their respective investments in the Philippines.

Kassim added that several more have made their way to the Philippines during the first six months of the year to scout for possible business opportunities.

He said their interests are in hotels, infrastructure, tourism, construction, energy, palm oil cultivation, agriculture food and beverage, solid waste management and manufacturing.

Given the strong performance of the Philippine economy and continued investor confidence, Kassim aired his optimism that business deals involving Malaysian investors in the country will flourish.

The Trade Office (MATRADE) of the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila is at the forefront of providing assistance to Malaysian companies who are eager to explore the opportunities in this emerging economy and as such encourages greater trade collaboration between the Philippines and Malaysia.
