All NAIA flights put on hold

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has also put all flights on hold on Tuesday as all roads leading to the NAIA are flooded as heavy rains brought by tropical storm "Maring" continue to pour in.

MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado said in a radio interview Tuesday that several of the airlines' ramps have been filled with water.

"Dahil sa nangyaring pagbaha sa mga kalye natin I would like to suggest na huwag na kayong mag-risk at kung hindi naman importante mag-request na lang kayo ng cancellation or rebooking," Honrado warned.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines has similarly grounded all its international and domestic flights scheduled for Tuesday morning due to severe weather conditions, while Cebu Pacific airlines has not yet canceled trips.

"CEB flights have not been canceled at this time, as those already at the airport will still be released for flight," Cebu Pacific said in a statement around 9:15 Tuesday.

The second flag carrier has also delayed flights in their origin bound for Manila following Ninoy Aquino International Airport's (NAIA) suspension of ramp operations.

PAL has waived rebooking fees and penalties for passengers who were not able to use their tickets.

Cebu Pacific similarly advised its passengers unable to take their flights to rebook or reroute their flights for free within 30 days from original travel date.

Honrado added that Sea Air has called off all flights scheduled for Tuesday and will resume tomorrow.

The Philippine Stock Exchange, meanwhile, has again suspended trading Tuesday.
