Noy tells his bosses: It's now a different Philippines
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III laid out the country's achievements in the past three years, claiming that there is now a "different" Philippines under his leadership.
Speaking in his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday, Aquino reported these achievements in various sectors of the society
"From the prudent expenditure of funds to the effective collection of taxes; from infrastructure development to the transparent conduct of business that generates jobs, our message to the world could not be clearer: The Philippines is ready to ride the tides of progress," Aquino said.
"Truly, the Philippines is different today: From a country that was always just the recipient of help, we have become a country capable of providing help
The President said the nation is now "experiencing change" that was brought by the government and by millions of Filipinos who have contributed in transforming the country.
The achievments
In the agriculture sector, Aquino reported that the country has now become a rice exporter while the the government has also completed the listing of qualified beneficiaries in Hacienda Luisita, which belonged to Aquino's family.
The President also cited the accomplishments in the defense sector, with the establishment of 21,800 housing units for law enforcers and the distribution of new pistols to the Philippine National Police.
In disaster preparedness, Aquino said the government has completed the multi-hazard mapping of 28 most vulnerable areas in the country. About P6.2-billion has also been allotted for anti-flood projects in Metro Manila.
Aquino also reported the country's recent accolades in the tourism sector, the crafted Bangsamoro Framework agreement, the recent credit rating upgrades and economic growth gains.
Inclusive growth
With the reported accomplishments, Aquino vowed to make their effects be felt by all.
"The strategy—maximize opportunities for all, especially for those most in need. We are not content to wait for the trickle-down effect; we cannot leave their fate—their receiving the benefits of progress—to chance. What we call inclusive growth—this all-encompassing progress—is the principle that drives every initiative, every action, and every decision of your government," the President said.
"This is the framework from which other initiatives will branch out, creating even greater opportunities for Juan and Juana dela Cruz.," he added.
Aquino also reported that the proposed 2.268 trillion-peso National Budget for 2014 will be submitted tomorrow and would be instrumental in ensuring inclusive growth.
"This budget is not only a continuation of our reforms, but it will also accelerate our momentum towards long-lasting inclusive progress," he said.
The President also urged Filipinos to unite in making the growth and changes in the country to be permanent and greater.
"Let us not allow this transformation to be temporary; let us seize this opportunity to make the change permanent... Now, my countrymen, let us continue to stand arm-in-arm. Together, let us foster, accelerate, and expand the transformation of society," Aquino concluded.
