MANILA, Philippines - National Power Corp. (Napocor), the state-owned power generation company, has installed approximately 50,000 kilowatts in off-grid areas as part of its missionary electrification program under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001.

“In all, from 2008 to 2012, we installed approximately 50,000 kw in missionary areas,” Napocor president Froilan Tampinco said in an accomplishment report.

He said in 2008, alone, Napocor installed diesel power plants in Cuyo, Palawan (500 kw); Siasi, Sulu (1,000 kw); Power Barge 109 in Tablas, Romblon (1,000 kw) and three power plants in Marinduque.

“We installed lines in Occidental Mindoro and Catanduanes and completed four substation projects in Palawan and Catanduanes,” Tampinco said.

In 2012, Napocor also installed a total of 14, 186 kw of new and augmentation capacities in 21 different power plants and areas nationwide.

Furthermore, Tampinco said Napocor has made headway in its mandate to manage the 11 watersheds and the environment.

“Napocor continues to fulfill its mandate to manage 11 watersheds and 22 dams under our stewardship. From 2008 up to 2012, we were able to rehabilitate a total of 2,608 hectares in our watershed areas, mainly through reforestation and agro forestry initiatives. We continue to play our role to support the government’s drive toward climate change mitigation,” Tampinco said.

Tampinco also implemented a massive reorganization in Napocor alongside its privatization program.
