Sun Cellular taps Norwegian firm for mobile Internet service

MANILA, Philippines - Sun Cellular, a unit of dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), has tied up with Norway-based Opera Software ASA to provide subscribers with strong, fast, and reliable mobile Internet connection.

Michele Curran, vice president for data services of Sun Cellular, said in a statement that Filipinos could now enjoy more power on their mobile Internet with the Sun Opera Mini browser.

â€œAside from offering best-value browsing services, we strive to optimize the mobile experience and continue to seek value-adding integrations such as Opera Mini. With this new milestone, we are positive that our subscribers will experience the mobile Internet space in a brand new level,” Curran stressed.

Sun Opera Mini provides subscribers with a strong, fast and reliable mobile Internet surfing experience with up to six times faster browsing capabilities than other web browsers.

Sun Opera Mini compresses data consumption giving users a lighter and faster Internet.

â€œThis eliminates buffering and ultimately translates to savings in mobile Internet consumption,” she added.

Sun Opera Mini also comes with a Speed Dial feature that is significantly absent in other mobile Internet browsers. It works as a shortcut to subscribers’ favorite websites, thus making mobile users experience much more seamless.

Most importantly, the Sun Opera Mini browser is compatible with around 3,000 handsets so nobody gets left behind.

To avail of the service, subscribers should download the Sun Opera Mini browser via http://wap.suncellular.com.ph.

The Opera Group started out in 1994 as a research project within Telenor, Norway’s leading telecom. It is headquartered in Norway with over 700 employees in offices around the world.

Opera Software has always strived to develop the fastest and technologically most advanced browsers. As a result, the Opera browser is the choice of some of the world’s most demanding and knowledgeable users.

At the same time, when the powerful compression technology in the Opera browser is applied to the Opera Mini browser, the Web is accessible on even the simplest handsets, with small screens and limited memory.

Sun Cellular hopes to sustain the 71 percent growth in mobile internet revenues in the first quarter of the year on the back of improved nationwide coverage and robust sales of smartphones.
