Cyberoam to help Philippine gov't repel cyberattacks

MANILA, Philippines - Network security appliance company Cyberoam Technologies said Friday that it plans to meet up with government departments in the country recently victimized by a series of cyberattacks.
Amar Mehta, country manager of Cyberoam in the Philippines, said the meeting will be aimed at teaching government agencies on how to fortify their infrastructure against future cyberattacks.
"We will look at what happened and educate them on how to stop the attacks," Mehta said at the launch of the company's New Generation Unified Threat Management models dubbed as the "NG Series" in Makati City on Friday.
Several government websites have been put down or defaced by recent hack attacks. The attacks also seem to spike whenever the Philippines is locked in dispute with other countries claiming parts of the West Philippine Sea.
Majority of the attacked websites are registered under the .gov.ph Domain Registry Website (http://dns.gov.ph/) that is maintained and administered by the Advanced Science and Technology Institute and the Department of Science and Technology.
The recent attacks came shortly after the shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by the Philippine coast guard.
Mehta met with the local press and announced the launching of Cyberoam's NG series.
Mehta said the NG series seeks to address the evolving security needs of organizations of all sizes from small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) to large enterprises by enabling networks to become future-ready as they move towards upgraded network infrastructure and high Internet speeds.
"The Philippines is one of the fastest growing countries in the entire Asia Pacific and we see a lot of potential in this part of the world," Mehta said. "We believe that the security awareness here is growing. Local businesses are beginning to understand the importance of protecting their valuable IT infrastructure."
Mehta said Cyberoam will soon open its local office in the Philippines to increase support for vendor distributors and partners as well as to create more awareness for the brand.
