Huawei to launch 4 new phones in Phl

MANILA, Philippines - Huawei Devices Phils. Inc., the local unit of China-based leading information and communications technology provider Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., is looking at launching four new phones in the country this year as it aims to almost double its global sales of smartphones.

“The addition of Ascend W1 to our smartphone portfolio gives consumers access to an even wider range of Huawei smartphones. At a price that makes sense to consumers, Ascend W1 underscores our commitment to put smartphones within reach of every consumer, no matter who you are or what you want from your phone,” Johnson Ma, country manager of Huawei Device Phils. said.

 He said the Huawei Ascend W1 is the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone to use the new Windows 8 operating system of Microsoft Corp.

“Inspired and powered by people, the Ascend W1 is a combination of Huawei’s user-centric design philosophy and Windows Phone 8 software, bringing consumers a truly compelling choice,” he added.

The Ascend W1 is 10.15 mm thin and features a 4-inch IPS LCD 480 x 800 touchscreen with OGS Technology that reduces the light consumption and makes the screen brighter, more vivid and more natural even under the sun, providing great view experience for its users.

Its breathtaking speed is powered by the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragonâ„¢ S4 MSM8230 dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and Adreno 305 GPU. With a 1950 mAh battery, the Ascend W1 has 470 hours  of standby time, the longest among all smartphones in its class.

Huawei vice president and head of international media affairs Scott Sykes said the company is looking at selling 60 million smartphones this year.

“Our goal and expectation this year is we want to sell 60 million smartphones or roughly double than the amount we sold last year,” Sykes said.

Huawei sold 32 million smartphones all over the world last year or about 60 percent higher than the 20 million smartphones sold in 2011.

“Even though we are a relatively new comer in this year in terms of having our own branded business, we see ourselves as survivor so far this is a very difficult business this is a very dynamic business,” he added.

According to him, Huawei sees global revenues from the sale of smartphones increasing 15.4 percent to $9 billion this year from $7.8 billion last year. The company has 25 smartphones.
