Firms seeks shields from cybercrime

MANILA, Philippines - The conference PROTECT 2013: “Doing Business Amidst New Threats” is taking the lead in delivering solutions to the growing concerns that silent cyberwarfare could disrupt everyday life by sabotaging power grids, tampering with water supply, cutting off communications, endangering plane flights, or denying financial services.

The threats on national security and economy have become more severe with the discovery that certain countries have engaged in top-secret operations to spy on rival military, steal corporate and industrial technology, and inject rival computer networks with viruses and malware.

While these countries are on online aggression, professional hackers have been operating a shadow economy using the Internet through consumer scams, human trafficking, counterfeiting, and identity theft.

Solutions to counter these threats would be shared by local and international experts at PROTECT 2013 on April 17-18 at Hotel Intercontinental in Makati. 

This conference  is the longest-running event for partnership in security efforts between the government and the private sector. It was initiated by Leverage International in 2005 in cooperation with the Anti-Terrorism Council.
