Globe posts 2-digit hike in subscriber base, postpaid revenues

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has once again proven that the postpaid segment is one of its strongest businesses after posting the highest growth in subscriber base and revenues in the third quarter of 2012.

As of end-September 2012, Globe has added close to 300,000 new postpaid subscribers from previous year, compared to just 182,000 new customers gained by the other network during the same period. This has brought total Globe postpaid subscriber base to 1.66 million, over one million more than competition’s postpaid customer base.

The company’s postpaid business has likewise posted record-high growth in subscriber revenues, growing to P5.8 billion from P4.6 billion in the same quarter in 2011. This is a 25 percent increase year-on-year, nearly twice the reported revenue growth of competition.

With this phenomenal growth in postpaid subscriber base and revenues, Globe easily secures the spot of being the biggest and most consistently-growing postpaid brand in the country.

Meanwhile, Globe postpaid revenues ending 2012 rose to another record-high of P22.8 billion, a significant 24 percent growth from P18.5 billion from last year’s levels, primarily driven by the company’s record-breaking iPhone 5 launch in December 2012. Full year net acquisitions also reflected the improving quality of acquired postpaid subscribers with 42 percent of regular postpaid net additions signing up for plans with monthly service fees of P999 and above, compared to just 19 percent in 2011.

According to Martha Sazon, Head of Globe Postpaid, the strong and consistent performance of the segment over the last two years can be attributed to innovative and customer-centric offers and deals led by the game-changing My Super Plan launched in 2010.

“When it comes to postpaid, subscribers choose Globe and stay with Globe. The deep affinity with the brand has grown tremendously over the years with offers that transformed and enriched our customers’ lives,” Sazon said. “Globe Postpaid maintains a very strong following, making it a strong and resilient force to reckon with amidst the negative tirades and aggressive switching campaigns launched by our competitors. In the end, subscribers know which network really delivers and gives the best value for their postpaid needs, and we thank them for their continued loyalty and trust with Globe,” Sazon said.

She added, “The numbers speak for themselves. Contrary to advertising claims, Globe is not only the fastest but also the most consistently-growing postpaid brand in the Philippines. And as we start to feel the gains of our modernized network, we will continue to set the trend and pace in postpaid with more revolutionary offers that will change the lives of Filipinos.”

Early this year, Globe scored exclusive deals with two of the world’s biggest smartphone brands Samsung and CloudFone, getting first dibs on the Samsung Galaxy SIII mini and the CloudFone tablet and phone bundle. Both devices are offered with more plan options, giving subscribers more flexibility and the true freedom to enjoy their calls, texts, and mobile internet.

The postpaid leader is poised to sustain growth momentum in 2013 with the launch of the discounted extension data plan for subscribers with heavy mobile browsing requirements, and the much-improved and more customer-centric My Super Plan which will once again change the landscape of mobile postpaid in the country.
