Telco breaks traditional mobile to landline charging fees

Tam Noda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- Local telecommunications company Globe Telecom broke Wednesday night the traditional mobile to landline charging services that usually doubles the amount of mobile to mobile calls.

Globe said the key is to exploit Internet's technology, saying it has always advocated that online connection is an enabler for greatness.

Jurist Gamban, Head of Globe's Tattoo@Home broadband, said the latest service is the first in the broadband industry by offering subscribers free unlimited landline to mobile calls to Globe and Touch Mobile (TM).

The executive said the service is on top of the free monthly service fee and free Globe NDD already offered before.

"We need to make broadband as accessible as possible to everyone. Why ask people to pay double for two services, the landline and home internet that run on the same line?" Gumban asked.

Gamban said the landline is the lifeline of any household and it serves as a reliable link between working parents and their children. It connects them to the househelp and nannies who look after their kids. However, the cost of calling a mobile phone from a landline has prevented such lifeline to be used as often as necessary.
