The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - All is set for the annual gathering of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software users on Jan. 22 and 23 at the EDSA Shangri-La Manila’s Isla Ballroom with the theme “GIS (Geographic Information Systems): Enhancing Governance and Citizen Engagement.”

The two-day conference aims to share information and learnings among users to gain knowledge about technological developments on the ESRI GIS platform to enhance their work and those of their stakeholders.

The GIS user conference has attracted at least 80 to 100 executive levels in both the private and government sectors during the executive forum yearly as well as foreign and local exhibitors, and almost 500 local participants to the plenary and breakout sessions from all industries, national government agencies, telecommunications, transportation, business, academe and local government units.

GIS and related geospatial technologies and data, facilitated by rapid changes in information and communication technologies are increasingly being used in the Philippines to address and solve problems in governance, economic development, basic services, emergency response, climate change, crime monitoring, and every day concerns of citizens.
