Maynilad registers 894% growth in Muntinlupa accounts

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has registered an 894 percent growth in its service accounts in Muntinlupa City in the past six years as a result of the P5.8-billion pipe-laying project it conducted in the cities of Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and Cavite beginning last year.

The company said its service accounts in the city grew from 4,370 ending 2006 to 43,453 by the end of the third quarter of the current year, translating to a customer population of 272,885.

Maynilad’s customers in Muntinlupa now have 24-hour water supply at a pressure of at least seven pounds per square inch (psi). It takes about seven psi for water to reach the second floor of a building.

Since the project was implemented, 165 kilometers of new pipes have been laid and 1.3 kilometers  of old pipes have been replaced.

The company said that before Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and DMCI Holdings Inc. (DMCIHI) took over Maynilad in 2007, Muntinlupa residents relied mostly on irregular and expensive water delivery services and groundwater from private deep wells. Only 76 percent of those connected to Maynilad had 24-hour water service, and only  44 percent received their supply at seven psi pressure.

“The communities in Muntinlupa have waited decades for clean, affordable water. We’re very glad that our infrastructure investments are now paying off, and that we can finally serve them,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

Maynilad services the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the districts of the Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Bacoor, Cavite and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
