Sun Life re-launches $-linked product on huge demand

Ted P. Torres - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sun Life Financial-Philippines (SLFP) will relaunch the Sun Dollar Maximizer, a structured note variable unit-linked life insurance product, due to strong demand from its clients.

“We would like our clients to experience this bright possibility of higher earnings for their US dollars through Sun Dollar Maximizer (Emerging Asia), our latest structured note product offering.  Our clients can enhance the value of their dollar assets without fear of losing their capital because the product is designed to protect 100 percent of the principal,” said SLFP chief marketing officer Mylene Lopa.

The original offering of Sun Dollar Maximizer sold more than $20 million worth of premiums.

“This shows that our clients have seen the beauty of this product as it provides them diversification for their dollar assets and the potential to earn from various assets that they normally may not be able to access,” Lopa added.

Sun Dollar Maximizer (Emerging Asia) is a limited-offer life insurance product with an investment component. It is designed to provide capital protection and gives clients the opportunity to enjoy potential earnings from high-growth funds of China, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines – countries which comprise emerging Asia, the world’s largest and fastest growing region.

It is a single-pay, principal-protected investment-linked life insurance product that matures in seven years.

Lopa said clients can take advantage of the growth of emerging Asian economies as the underlying index is composed of a dynamically managed portfolio of cash and eight equally-weighted exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from each of the eight countries in emerging Asia.

An ETF is an investment fund traded on stock exchanges, much like stocks. The fund holds assets such as stocks, commodities or bonds, and trades close to its net asset value (NAV) over the course of the trading day. Most ETFs track an index, such as a stock index or bond index. ETFs may be attractive as investments because of their low costs, tax efficiency, and stock-like features.

For as little as $8,000, an investor can invest in global equities of eight Emerging Asia countries.

Sun Dollar Maximizer (Emerging Asia) utilizes an investment strategy which allows the policy owners to participate in the highest annual cumulative performance at the end of the seven-year period. It also has a volatility control mechanism that cushions the downside effects of market fluctuations.

Thus, investors only need one good year, out of seven years, to maximize their returns.

Meanwhile, the single-pay, principal-protected investment-linked life insurance product provides life insurance protection so it combines potential for maximum returns and peace of mind in one convenient product.

Lopa said Sun Dollar Maximizer (Emerging Asia) is available for a limited period only. Sun Life also offers hassle-free application for this product with no need to undergo any medical examinations through the guaranteed issue offer.
