German solar power firm eyes Phl investment

MANILA, Philippines - German solar power firm mp-tec GmbH & Co KG is planning to invest in the Philippines, its top executive said.

mp-tec founder and chief executive officer Michael Preißel said their proposed investment in the Philippine solar industry is in line with long-term plans to expand in the international market.

The mp-tec executive conveyed the firm’s plan to Philippine embassy first secretary Adrian Cruz and Philippine Trade and Investment Center commercial counselor Jose Antonio Buencamino who visited mp-tec’s headquarters in Eberswalde, Berlin, Germany last Sept. 25.

In his visit to Manila in May this year, Preißel noted the Philippines’ “European-friendly” environment.

He believed that the Philippines could be geographically well-positioned to serve as mp-tec’s platform for the Asian market.

He is also optimistic about the Philippine market as he notes the tremendous potential and opportunities of renewable energy (RE) in providing win-win solutions to the country’s energy demand and consumption.

The official likewise expressed confidence in establishing links with the various stakeholders (i.e., developers, local communities and national government) as they forge partnerships with mp-tec in the technical field and in joint venture arrangement especially in difficult and remote off-grid locations.

Preißel said they may forge strategic partnership with Solarus Partners and SunAsia Energy in their venture in the Philippines.

He said he is optimistic of the outcomes from the synergy of the companies, where each entity shares the talents, and financial resources which will guarantee good yield and performance from the sun.

In a publication of the Philippine Embassy in Germany, mp-tec was described as a solar company specializing in the development and manufacture of application-oriented, premium solar power, solar heat and assembly systems.

It is considered a pioneer of the industry and is one of the leaders in the development and manufacture of photovoltaic, solar power and assembly systems in Germany.
