- Lawrence Agcaoili - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is set to double the number of areas covered by its latest technological breakthrough in broadband service using fiber optic cables as part of its P67-billion network upgrade and modernization program.

PLDT vice president and head for broadband Gary Dujali said the company hopes to make available the PLDT Fibr technology in about 100 subdivisions in the country from the current level of more than 50 subdivisions.

“We expect the technology to be available in over a hundred subdivisions by the end of the month to provide our customers with the best and fastest way to connect to the Internet,” Dujali stressed.

PLDT Fibr is the country’s first fiber optic Internet connection that goes straight to your home. With this kind of broadband connection in place, you can achieve speeds from 10 to 100 mbps.

It is now available in Acropolis (Libis), Alabang 400, Alabang Hills, Ayala Heights, Arcadia Village, Ayala Alabang Village, Capitol 8 Subd., Corinthians Garden, Dasmariñas Village, Don Antonio Heights, East Greenhills, Forbes Park, Greenmeadows Subd., Kasiyahan Homes, and La Vista.

The service is also available in Lexington Garden Village, Loyola Grand Villas, Magallanes Village, Mahogany Place III, McKinley Hills, Montgomery Place, Northeast Greenhills, North Greenhills, Pacific Malayan Village, Phoenix Subd., San Lorenzo Village, Southbay, St. Ignatius Subd., Tierra Pura, Urdaneta Village, Valle Verde, Wack-wack, West Greenhills, Ayala Southvale, Greenview Executive Homes, Palme Pointe, Varsity Hills, Sikatuna Village, and Teachers Village.

Dujali said the company intends to be in 100 subdivisions all over the country including in key cities such as Cebu, Davao, Cavite, and Batangas.

For his part, PLDT Home marketing head Dan Ibarra said in an interview with reporters that the company hopes to contribute P25 billion worth of revenues to the PLDT Group this year.

The PLDT Group’s combined broadband subscriber base hit the 3.1 million mark as of end-June. SmartBro had a wireless broadband subscriber base of over 1.63 million followed by PLDT’s DSL subscribers with 775,000, and Digitel with 2.1 million.

Ibarra said subscribers would enjoy seamless HD, 3D and interactive video streaming, high-speed web browsing and much more all at the same time without experiencing any speed lags.

“With the Fiber technology, more families will be able to enjoy the strongest connections at home,” he explained.
