Honda recalls 834 CR-V units

Manila, Philippines - Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) announced yesterday that it is recalling 834 units of CR-V to replace the faulty door latch assembly.

HCPI said the recall is not expected to affect its sales performance this year.

“HCPI announces a voluntary recall of 834 Honda CR-V 2012 year model sold in the Philippines for the period of April to July 2012, to replace the inner door handle and/or door latch assembly with counter measure parts,” Mitch Malto, HCPI head of public relations and marketing said in a press briefing yesterday.

The recall, she said, is part of a global recall of the vehicle following eight reports in the US involving the car’s faulty door latch.

She revealed that 314,000 units of CR-V 2012 model have been sold worldwide.

She said their findings showed that if the manual or power door lock is activated while an interior front door handle is being opened, the cable connecting the interior door handle to the door latch mechanism may become loose and move out of position.

She said it is likely that the cable could move far enough to make the interior door handle inoperable and prevent the door from properly latching.

“If the latter condition occurs, it is possible for a front door to be closed but not fully latched, allowing the door to open while driving,” she said.

She said that while no crashes or injuries have been reported so far, the firm is conducting a voluntary recall of the vehicle to ensure their customer’s safety.

The replacement of the door latch assembly, she said, would be undertaken in HCPI’s 28 authorized dealers and three service centers nationwide free of charge and would only take two hours.

HCPI is sending letters of notice and calling concerned customers starting today (July 20) regarding the recall of the vehicle.
