Guimaras mango festival opens today

MANILA, Philippines - The island province of Guimaras opened recently its 19th Manggahan Festival, a grand spectacle of culture, sports, entertainment and agri-tourism, which runs from April 10 to April 22. The festival, the most ambitious and colorful event ever held in the province in years, will be topbilled by the 1st Mango Man Triathlon on April 15 and the Manggahan Festival 2012 Tribes Competition on April 22. The festival, which was first held on May 22, 1993 to commemorate the first anniversary of Guimaras as a full-pledged province, officially opens today, coinciding with the Agri-Trade Fair 2012 to be kicked off with the street dancing competition at the Guimaras Capitol Grounds. Other activities are Manggahan sa Robinson’s (April 10-14), 2nd Manggahan Fun Run, ABS-CBN Kapamilya Show (Walang Hanggan cast), April 15, Fiesta sa Manggahan Forum, Disco Derby  (April 16), Visayas Science & Technology Forum, Jobs Fair  (April 17), PWD Cultural Presentation, 1st Manggahan Culinary Arts Competition (April 18),Magnolia Cooking Demo (April 19), Mango Eat-All-You-Can (April 18-22), BMEG Livelihood Caravan Seminar, Mutya ng Guimaras Coronation Night (April 20), Live Band (April 15, 17,19-22), and Fireworks Competition (April 22).
