Concepcion-Carrier eyes 55% market share

-

MANILA, Philippines - Airconditioning solutions provider Concepcion-Carrier is aiming to corner 50 to 55 percent of the almost P10-billion local market in five years through the continous introduction of new models, mostly in the mid-range and starter units category.

Concepcion-Carrier chief operating officer Raul Joseph Concepcion said the company currently has a 45-percent share in the local market.

“To survive in the Philippines, you have to be a big player,” he said during a roundtable discussion with reporters in Makati Tuesday night.

In 2010, the firm registered sales of P 4.5 billion, up 35 percent from the previous year. This fell to around P4 billion in 2011 after frequent typhoons that occurred during the year reduced the demand for airconditioning units.

“It’s really more of a postponement (of demand),” said Concepcion, “Now, better weather is going on and we are rolling out new models. “We are very optimistic (this year). We target our sales to go up 20 percent this year. The business environment is enthusiastic. 2012 is going to be a very strong year for us.”

Concepcion said that 60 percent of the company’s sales still comes from retail, while the remaining percentage comes mostly from providing ariconditioning solutions in business facilities.

Last year, Concepcion-Carrier released its Designer Series, Carrier Evergreen chillers and Carrier XPower, products that are targeted at reducing energy costs.

Concepcion noted that there is now a demand for products that mix performance and aesthetics.

“Consumers now are more demanding. There is now a shift to aesthetics,” Concepcion said.

Concepcion-Carrier is a partnership between Concepcion Industries Inc.(CII) and Carrier Corporation. The firm assembles cooling and heating systems. It is 60 percent owned by the Concepcion family which runs Concepcion Industries.

In the country, it has installed the cooling systems in Resorts World, Market! Market!, Robinsons Abreeza malls, Waltermart Makati, GMA network, Manansala Tower condominium, Promenade Greenhills, Shopwise Super Center in Cubao, and Bonifacio Ridge condominium.
