MANILA, Philippines - Research findings by leading American food and agriculture technology research organization Northern Corps Institute (NCI) on the nutritional and economic aspects of flour derived from green peas will be presented next week to the local food industry at a conference slated on Jan. 27 at the Oakwood Premier Joy-Nostalg Center in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
The research findings will be presented in the conference by Dr. Virgith Buena, chairman of the country’s Board of Nutrition and Dietetics and nutrition consultant of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. She is also a member of the US Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics,
Dr. Buena is expected to highlight the value of pea flour as supplement to its wheat-based counterpart. She will share the results of NCI’s extensive research on pea flour, including its nutritional advantages and use in food items consumed by Filipinos.
She will also underscore the health benefit advantages of pea flour and how its combination with wheat-based flour has won consumer preference in other parts of the world.
The conference is also set to formally announce the availability of pea flour products in the local market.
The conference is being organized by the local food sector in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), United States Dry Bean Council and United States Dry Pea and Lentil Council in cooperation with the local food sector.
