MANILA, Philippines - Islas Tankers Shipping Corp. (ITSC), a member of the Magsaysay Transport & Logistics Group, recently played host to Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (PSPC) in a dinner at the Old Manila Restaurant of the Manila Peninsula Hotel to commemorate the delivery to the charterers (PSPC) of the newly-acquired tanker vessel, M/T Samal Island (in photo).
M/T Samal Island was purposely built as a double hull chemical tanker in Korea in 2005. With a deadweight of 5,555 and a total capacity of 6.35 million liters, M/T Samal Island has 10 cargo oil tanks with individual Marflex cargo pump allowing the vessel the flexibility of carrying up to five product grades at the same time. The vessel can also do simultaneous loading and discharging operations, if needed.
M/T Samal Island can carry jet fuel, gasoline, diesel and kerosene. The vessel has 1,000 feet of marathon hoses onboard, allowing it the added flexibility of doing mediterranean mooring in hardship ports. The vessel is also fitted with Ullage Temperature Interface (UTI) gauging devices, allowing for a full closed loading and discharging operations.
ITSC has been working with PSPC for the continuous upgrading of the local tanker industry for over 20 years and ITSC’s acquisition of MT Samal Island gives PSPC the distinct advantage of using one of the youngest and biggest white tanker vessels in the local industry. ITSC currently has another tanker vessel being chartered by PSPC, which is M/T Mactan Island, with a DWT of 3,800 and a total capacity of four million liters.
Aside from the two tanker vessels, PSPC also charters nine tanker barges from ITSC, adding an additional capacity of seven million liters. This brings the total petroleum transport capacity being provided by ITSC to more than 17 million liters. The M/T Samal Island and the other tanker barges will definitely help PSPC in their petroleum transport requirements nationwide.
