Group backs law on outdoor media sector
MANILA, Philippines - An advocacy group composed of out-of-home (OOH) outdoor media industry operators, suppliers and allied service providers is urging Congress to pass a law that will guide their industry.
The Outdoor Media Advocacy Group (OMAG) particularly supports pending measures in the House of Representatives introduced by Reps. Leopoldo Bataoil (HB 3159) and Angelo Palmones (HB 3539) saying “they are comprehensive in scope and reasonable in character.”
Lawyer Winthrop H.R. Bañez, OMAG executive director and spokesperson, cited Bataoil and Palmones for their timely initiatives to “professionalize the OOH industry and help the country economically.”
The bills, Bañez said, would “instill discipline within our ranks while giving the industry room for growth and the capacity to contribute to the national economy.”
The Bataoil bill is the most comprehensive of all pending measures as it incorporates the latest technological advances and lessons learned from past experiences.
It also addresses issues such as the determination of size, distance, strength, wind load capacity, and placements, among other issues.
The Palmones bill, on the other hand, strengthens the industry’s resolve to protect the environment.
OMAG cited the need to consolide all good, progressive, safe and economically beneficial provisions into an omnibus law to govern the industry.
