Sun Cellular setting up additional 500 cell sites in Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines -  Gokongwei-owned Sun Cellular, the mobile brand of Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. (Digitel), is setting up an additional 500 cell sites in Mindanao as part of its expansion program to provide reliable and affordable unlimited calls, texts and broadband service in the region, and to an even wider network with stronger signals.

“We will have around 1,000 cell sites in Mindanao by end-2011 to provide subscribers with wider network coverage and stronger signal especially in key areas in the region such as Davao, Gen. Santos, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga,” Digitel senior vice president Bill Pamintuan said.

Officials explained that more cell sites in Mindanao mean more subscribers can better enjoy the benefits of Sun’s advanced mobile network technology which transmits text messages and voice calls more efficiently using only half the resources that older networks would require.

Their robust network is capable of handling high volumes of data and voice requirements, and boasts of a network that correctly deducts their subscribers’ loads, they added.

They explained that the savings are then passed on to the subscribers in terms of the lowest prepaid and postpaid rates for users, and permanent, not promo, unlimited call and text products.

Sun has also launched its Sun Magic Zone Mindanao SIM, made exclusively for Mindanao, to mark its intensive expansion in the region.

“Sun Magic Zone Mindanao offers the most economical option there is. With our lowest rates and ever reliable unlimited call and text services, Mindanao subscribers can be certain to stay seamlessly connected to their family and friends at all times,” Digitel vice president for prepaid and marketing services Joan Corpus said.

The Sun Magic Zone Mindanao SIM allows subscribers to make unlimited calls and texts to the millions of Sun subscribers in Mindanao for only P10 per day. Subscribers can also enjoy unlimited texts to All Sun subscribers in Mindanao only for P5 per day. This makes Mindanao Sun Cellular’s “special zone”, as Sun Magic Zone and Sun subscribers will now always be within reach through this all-powerful, special SIM.

Sun Magic Zone subscribers can also call and text other networks or Sun subscribers outside Mindanao by simply loading up with Sun’s loads, such as the Call & Text Unlimited, Call and Text Combo or Text Unlimited.
