DENR unit to collect, store refrigerants

-

MANILA, Philippines - As the 2012 deadline of the ban on the ozone-depleting substance (ODS) chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) draws near, the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-EMB) is intensifying its efforts in implementing the National CFC Phaseout Plan (NCPP) project through the collection of used and recovered refrigerants.

CFC, also known by the brand name freon, is an ozone-depleting substance used in refrigerators and air conditioners as cooling agent. Its importation has been banned since Jan. 1, 2010, thus the need to collect used and recovered refrigerants from service shops and chiller owners.

The DENR-EMB, through its NCPP project, has authorized Delsa Chemicals and Multi-Products Inc. to collect, transport and store refrigerants from refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) and mobile air conditioning (MAC) service shops, manufacturers and chiller owners.

EMB director Juan Miguel T. Cuna said “Delsa Chemicals has been contracted and affirmed last September to be the collector of recovered refrigerants.” He noted that the company is also one of the registered importers of refrigerants in the country.

Service shops, chiller owners and other ODS handlers may reach Delsa Chemicals and Muti-Products Inc. at 809-8531 or 809-6041 local 203. You may also inquire via SMS at 0922-827-4932 or via email at [email protected]. For more information, contact the NCPP project management unit at 928-4589 to 78.
