Pfizer to sell 9 branded generic drugs here next year
MANILA, Philippines - Pfizer Parke Davis (PPD), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pfizer Philippines, will be launching nine prescription-branded generic drugs next year, a top company executive said.
PPD general manager Roberto V. Bautista said they will be selling branded generic drugs in order to help Filipinos medicate properly. Seven of the nine drugs are antibiotics while the remaining two are for hypertension and vertigo.
Bautista, however, said he cannot say how much cheaper the new drugs are but stressed that their medicine is of high quality.
The initial line-up of PPD’s generic medicines covers the therapeutic areas of anti-infectives (both oral and injectable), anti-hypertensive, and anti-vertigo. These medicines aim to address medical conditions afflicting most Filipinos.
“About 38 million patients around the world are being helped in disease recovery every day with Pfizer medicines,” said Bautista. “With the establishment of Pfizer Parke Davis, we aim to help even more patients than ever before. Our products are affordable branded generics medicines that carry Pfizer’s seal of quality.”
Pfizer noted that pneumonia is the fourth leading cause of death in the Philippines but it could be curable if proper medicine is given.
Whether it is innovative or generic medicines, Pfizer and its suppliers adhere to the same quality standards. Pfizer places the utmost emphasis on patient safety and product quality and has in place world-class rigorous quality systems to ensure that all of its medicines are produced to global standards.
According to Bautista, PPD products are differentiated from the rest of the generic medicines in the market by its Pfizer seal of quality, efficacy, and safety. “With Pfizer Parke Davis, we aim to change the face of generics as we know it today.”
“For 160 years now, Pfizer globally has been researching, discovering and offering high-quality, safe and effective medicines to aid doctors and patients in the fight against life-threatening and life-debilitating diseases,” said Ahmet Genel, Pfizer’s president and country manager in the Philippines.
“With the introduction of Pfizer Parke Davis generic medicines, backed by the Pfizer global quality standards, we are helping to make quality medications and healthcare more accessible to more Filipinos.”
