IPVG unit ties up with Sybase

-

MANILA, Philippines - IP Converge Data Center, a unit of publicly-listed IT and gaming conglomerate IPVG Corp., has teamed up with global information technology leader Sybase for the launch of a new managed data service for Philippine businesses.

The companies will soon be offering data replication services to local enterprises as a form of disaster recovery and data security in times of unforeseen circumstances such as typhoons and earthquakes.

Company officials noted that with both natural and man-made disasters now occurring more frequently, precautionary measures are all the more of utmost necessity as the disruption of business operations due to these unforeseen events can result in catastrophe for any organization.

“The loss of business and revenue, a tarnished reputation, costs related to severely reduced productivity and contact violations, opportunity losses, etc. can easily and quickly bring a company to its knees, without any hope of getting back up,” they said.

IT professionals around the world have recognized the importance of disaster recovery for decades. Such widespread awareness stemmed from various incidents, be it natural disasters or terrorist threats. The need for business continuity and constant availability of data is ever-increasing, and IP Converge and Sybase believe that this is the right time to introduce data replication services in the Philippines, they added.

Data replication services involve the synchronization of data between a central database and a backup database. A customer’s central database may be located either at the customer’s premises (primary location), while a backup database shall be secured in the IPC Data Center (secondary location). The service is powered by Sybase’s MobiLink and replication server applications.

These primary and secondary locations are connected via dedicated connectivity, thereby allowing the synchronization of the central and backup databases. The end-result is a complete, secure, and robust data replication system designed according to a customer’s specific requirements for data redundancy and information security.

“MobiLink is intended for the two-way synchronization of data between a central, consolidated database and a large number of remote databases. Administration and resource requirements at the remote sites are minimal, making it well suited to a variety of applications.” Sybase Philippines managing director and COO Nicolo Hallare said.“Customers can be assured that vital business activities are available at all times to maintain service, accuracy, consistency, sustainability and recoverability of data. It also minimizes service interruption for their customers as well,” he explained.

Meanwhile, IP Converge vice president for product development Herns Hermida said their customers will find their data replication services highly reliable, convenient, and hassle-free as there is no need to invest on hardware, software or manpower.

“The service is offered on a monthly subscription basis that gives them access to state-of-the-art data center facilities, network redundancy, high-level security, and 24/7 support from professionally trained, highly-skilled staff,” Hermida added.

Sybase is an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software to manage, analyze and mobilize information. It is recognized globally as a performance leader, proven in the most data-intensive industries and across all major systems, networks and devices.

The IPC Data Center is a true telco-grade, carrier-neutral, international Internet data center facility owned and operated by IP Converge. It provides co-location services, data and network security, disaster recovery, business continuity and a host of other managed services and customized facilities that meet specific customer needs.
