Clark Electric allots P170 million for new projects

MANILA, Philippines - Clark Electric Distribution Corp. (CEDC) plan to spend about P170 million for its projects this year and next, the company said in statement.

CEDC is seeking the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to implement the projects which it said would be beneficial to its customers.

“In an effort to improve the quality of service to its locators, CEDC herein seeks authority to install, construct, operate and maintain its major electrical capital projects and non-electrical capital projects for 2010-2011,” it said.

CEDC, which services the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, is a joint venture between Angeles Electric Corp. and Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp. (Miescor), a subsidiary of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

Based on its petition, CEDC will undertake the construction of an additional transformer bay using the existing 40 megavolt-ampere power transformer.

It also plans to construct a 69-kilovolt tie-line to connect to the Angeles Electric Milenyo substation.

It also proposes to connect the 69-kv line looping to Clark Development Corp. 230-kV substation, installation of power quality meters at Clark Electric’s 69-kv delivery points, installation of fault indicators on the 13.8-kv feeder lines, automated meter reading of top 20 locators and installation of fiber optic lines.

On the other hand, non-electrical projects involve the construction of a three-story office building and warehouse, financial management system technology upgrade and the purchase of a truck.

“The said electric and non-electric capital projects shall be funded by CEDC using its approved credit facilities,” CEDC said.

According to CEDC, it had set aside about the same amount in 2009 for projects to provide reliable supply of power in the ecozone.

CEDC chief operating officer Radito P. Tuazon earlier said the upgrading of these facilities was necessary to support the demand growth in the area.
