Attending a conference

BIZLINKS - Rey Gamboa -

I am abroad attending a conference and will resume my comments on the issues of the day on July 16, 2010.

Collegiate basketball

The 2010 edition of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will open this weekend as the collegiate basketball season goes in full gear. Host for this year is De La Salle University with Bro. Bernie Oca sitting as the UAAP president.

Based on the review of the performance of the member teams during the pre-season games, experts are picking the Far Eastern University Tamaraws as the top seeded team followed closely by defending Philippine Collegiate and UAAP champion, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, and the Adamson University Soaring Falcons.

College basketball pundits have also identified three teams that will closely compete for the last slot in the final four, namely, the De La Salle Green Archers, the University of the East Warriors and the National University Bulldogs. Not to be discounted, however, are the much-improved the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and the UST Growling Tigers.

The top four UAAP teams are also looking at an automatic entry to the Sweet 16 Finals of the PCCL’s 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games. The fifth and sixth placers will have to pass thru the zonal qualifying rounds to earn seats in the finals.
