HSBC bares new CEO for RP
MANILA, Philippines - Tony Cripps, currently head of Global Banking and Markets for HSBC Bank (Australia), has been appointed chief executive officer for HSBC’s operations in the Philippines, subject to regulatory approvals. His appointment will take effect on Aug. 1, 2010.
Cripps will take over from current Philippines CEO Mark Watkinson, who will become executive vice president, Commercial Banking and regional president for Central and Eastern Canada.
Cripps has more than 20 years of experience working with HSBC in Australia, Hong Kong and in the United Kingdom. He began his career with HSBC as head of Derivatives Trading in Australia. Relocating to Hong Kong, he became head of Global Markets Strategy for Asia Pacific from 1997-2001. Following this, he moved to Global Banking and Markets’ e-commerce unit overseeing Asia, before transferring to London to head this unit globally. Cripps has been head of Global Banking and Markets at HSBC Bank Australia since 2009. He also serves as a strategic advisor on international market trends to HSBC’s management team.
During the past 24 years as an HSBC international manager, Watkinson has worked in Asia, the Middle East, the UK and the US. His two roles prior to the Philippines were senior vice president and group head of Corporate Middle Markets in the US and head of Commercial Banking for the United Arab Emirates. In the US, he was responsible for 13 teams of Middle Market Leaders on both the East and West Coast. In the UAE, he ran a business generating over $100 million with a team of 350 staff serving more than 6,500 corporate customers.
