20-year energy blueprint finalized

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE) has finalized the 2009-2030 Philippine Energy Plan (PEP), a blueprint of the energy development undertaking of the country over the next two decades.

The copy of the PEP was presented to energy stakeholders of the National Capital Region through a simple launching ceremony held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.  

Newly appointed Energy Secretary Jose C. Ibazeta led the IEC to enlighten the participants on various issues on energy development.

With around 200 stakeholders in attendance, the DOE had a healthy exchange of views with the participants on issues of current interest such as energy supply and demand, energy prices, energy efficiency, power sector reforms, as well as concerns on the use of renewable and alternative fuels.

Building on its commitment to formulate a long-term energy plan for the country, the DOE said the new PEP will highlight the plans and programs of the energy sector to fuel support for the economic growth of the country for the period 2009-2030. 

Specifically, the PEP will deal with the future of energy development which is very vital to the country’s prosperity. 

The DOE said the PEP 2009-2030 will ensure the best energy choices for a better quality of life during this period.

Prior to its public release, the DOE is conducting a series of regional activities to inform the public on the energy sector’s policy thrusts, strategies and programs in addressing pertinent issues and challenges in energy development. 

The activity will also include the IEC on nuclear energy as a long-term option of government in attaining energy security and reliability.
