Manila Water allots P10 billion for expansion

-

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Water Co. is continuously expanding its network to deliver water supply to more households and has earmarked P10 billion for 2010 to increase water and wastewater coverage. This is despite the lingering El Niño phenomenon.

The company is currently delivering an average of 1,084 million liter per day (Mld) to customers in the East Zone concession area, a significant increase from 440 Mld of potable water being delivered in August 1997 when the company first started its operations.

The thrust is to further expand South towards more areas of Rizal and North towards Rodriguez and San Mateo. To date, six million people are now enjoying 24-hour water availability because of Manila Water’s service improvement programs. This makes up 100 percent of the East Zone population.

The huge improvement resulted from the infusion of P32 billion in capital to finance the improvement of facilities, continuous replacement of old pipelines and expansion of its network, including replacement of valves, improvement of pumping stations and building of more reservoirs.

With the current El Niño situation, Manila Water is undertaking efficient water pressure and supply management in order to balance the network so that water can reach the highest and the farthest points of the service area.
