Foreign airlines seek fuel surcharge increase
MANILA, Philippines - With the recent uptick in world crude oil prices, a number of foreign airlines has started filing petitions with the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) for an increase in the fuel surcharge they impose on their passengers.
Among the foreign airlines that have approached the CAB for an authority to impose “upward adjustment of fuel surcharge” were Cathay Pacific Airways and Hong Kong Dragon Airlines.
Cathay Pacific has reportedly sought an increase of their fuel surcharge from $44.60 to $46.40 for their flights between Hong Kong and their Southwest Pacific, North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Africa, and the South Asian sub-continent destinations. It asked for an increase from $9.60 to $10 for their other destinations.
