Tan elected MAP president for 2010

MANILA, Philippines - Lawyer Eusebio V. Tan, managing partner of the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Office (ACCRALAW), is the president of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) for 2010. Tan is the 61st president of MAP since its inception in 1950.

Tan received his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, majoring in economics, summa cum laude , from De La Salle University in 1971 in its accelerated honors program and was awarded the General Excellence Gold Medal and the Dr. Jose Rizal Honors Society membership ring upon graduation. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1975 and was awarded the Second Honors Silver Medal. He graduated with a Master of Laws degree from the Columbia University School of Law in 1979.

Tan has extensive experience in the areas of investments; business law; mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; franchises and franchising; construction law; leases and leasing; banks and banking; and privatization. He has advised senior management, boards of directors, independent committees of boards, and major stockholders of both public and private corporations on strategies to be applied in major transactions and projects and in the implementation thereof.

He was involved in work relating to the privatization of Philippine Airlines, Petron Corp., the Fort Bonifacio Property, and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System. He has done work in connection with the public offering of securities of PLDT. He has advised on numerous joint venture projects involving foreign investors and Philippine joint venture partners.

Other officers of the MAP for 2010 are Peter L. Wallace, president of Wallace Business Forum, as vice president; Judith Duavit Vasquez, CEO of PHCOLO Inc., as treasurer; and Medel T. Nera, partner of Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co., as secretary.

The other members of the MAP board of governors are Elizabeth H. Lee, executive vice president for marketing and sales of Universal Motors Corp.; Gregorio S. Navarro, treasurer of Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc.; Felino A. Palafox Jr., principal architect – urban planner/ founder of Palafox Associates; Lydia P. Sarmiento, chair of Corporate Social Responsibility Institute (CSRI); and Mark Watkinson, president and CEO of HSBC.

MAP is a 59-year-old management organization whose 910 members represent a cross-section of CEOs, COOs and other top management practitioners from the largest local and multinational companies operating in the Philippines. MAP also counts some top management educators and government officials as its members.
