RP firms sell $25-million goods in Taiwan

- Ma. Elisa Osorio  -

MANILA, Philippines - The country earned $25 million from its participation in various trade shows in Taiwan, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei reported.

“In the area of trade, we have embraced a proactive lead generation strategy to win orders from and build long-term partnerships with our Taiwanese clients,” Antonio I. Basilio, MECO managing director and resident representative said.

He explained that by increasing the effectiveness of trade show participation, MECO helped Philippine manufacturers secure $25 million worth of orders from two industry fairs in Taipei alone this year. This figure does not include sales generated through trade seminars, missions and smaller presentations.

Basilio said local Manufacturers generated an initial sales of $10 million during the 2009 Taipei International Show held last June, representing a 25-percent improvement over the $8 million sales posted in 2008 and a 150-percent increase over the $4 million figure posted by the Philippine delegation during the 2007 Taipei Food Show.

The food show was held alongside two other food industry-related e x h i b i t i o n s : Foodtech, Catering and Pharmatech Taipei, and Taipei Pack 2009.

Likewise, Philippine auto parts and accessories manufacturers sold $15.075 million worth of initial sales during the 2009 Taipei International Auto Parts and Accessories (AMPA) Show.

“More importantly, we are chasing solid leads that could help our car parts manu-facturers generate revenues ranging from $50 million to $80 million annually starting 2010, using Taiwan as a jump-off point to markets in China, the Middle East, the EU, Africa and Oceania,” said Basilio.
