- Ted P. Torres -

MANILA, Philippines – Two of the country’s most prominent public figures in the financial community have been invited to speak at the 9th Annual Pacific Region Investment Conference (PRIC) to be held in the Philippines on October this year.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. and Finance Secretary Margarito V. Teves will lead the lineup of Filipino speakers at the event.

The Asia Pacific Association for Fiduciary Studies (APAFS) will run the annual affair with the cooperation of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (Finex).

APAFS is the premier educational association for prudent fund stewardship. For nine consecutive years, APAFS is organizing the only education conference-forum focused on the Asia Pacific region.

“We would also like to invite private sector leaders in the Philippine banking and insurance industry,” Jason Miyashita, APAFS deputy executive director told The STAR.

The investment conference this year aims to provide its expected 400 delegates current and fundamental understanding of global issues and regional trends from world-class experts.

Miyashita said speakers will discuss the ongoing global financial crisis, provide forecasts and an overview of the capital markets, pension funds, and how different economies in the region are coping with the crisis.

“It is not only an educational and training opportunity, it is also an opportunity for the tourism business and other related industries in the Philippines the chance to market their resources,” he added.

Those who have agreed to speak in the October confab are Stephen Weiss, senior vice president at Income Research & Management (IR&M) and Michael E. Salvay, CFA, managing principal and a senior portfolio manager at Payden & Rygel.

A number of key global players in the financial industry have also pledged their support for the upcoming conference such as Atalanta Sosnoff Capital; Metropolitan West Capital Management; Nicholas Applegate Capital Management; Milliman, Inc.; Davis Hamilton and Jackson Associates; Robeco Investment Management; Capis; Franklin Templeton; Fisher Investments Institutional Group; Income Research Management; Richmond Capital; Renaissance Investment Management; Evergreen; Louis Boulanger Now Ltd.; BMG Buillon Bars; Meryll Lynch; Janus Capital Group; Morgan Stanley Smith Barney; Glimpses of Guam; Payden & Rygel; and Continental Airlines.
